A murder mystery by Lesley Gunn

31 October 2024 at 7.00pm in the Reading Room, Ovingham

Our autumn 2024 murder mystery was a spook-tacular Halloween-special murder mystery, for one night only, along with a traditional peas-and-pie supper.

It is Halloween. A small group of dead and undead creatures who live together in a mansion owned by Victor the Vampire decide that this night will be a fa-boo-lous night to join a crowd of unsuspecting humans at a Halloween party. As they get set for a fang-tastic time, murder is the last thing on their mind.

But all is not well among the seemingly cozy group, and as they prepare for the evening the improbable happens – one of them is re-dead, this time permanently. Grave secrets begin to emerge as Victor works to dig out the truth behind the murder, and they soon require the intervention of a very human police officer, Inspector De’Ath.

Will the dead-icated investigation of Inspector De’Ath re-soul-ve the mystery? A lively audience joined us on the 31st of October at the Reading Room to see if their spook-ulations could unravel the ghastly truth behind the evening’s mysterious happenings.

Programme

As with our previous murder mysteries, the play was be performed as a whodunnit. The play had three acts. There was a break after the first and second acts, to give the audience time for discussion around clues and to complete answer forms. The evening also included an optional pie and peas supper served in the first break, with dessert served in the second break.

There were prizes for the funniest answer as well as the correct answer, to let imaginations fly even for those who didn’t have a ghost of an idea witch of the characters was responsible for the dark and dirty deeds.

Tickets

The performance raised funds for the Minerva Centre in Hexham, an organisation which works to help those with different learning abilities realise their full potential as individuals by providing craft, design and general art training. All profits from the evening were be donated to the Centre.
